Read More	Vernice Valentine, 70, of Beaman, passed away at her home Tuesday, November 9, 2010, surrounded by her loving family. Vernice was born June 22, 1940 in Shell Rock, Iowa the daughter of Verb and Edna Syhlman (Bolhuis). She grew up in Parkersburg, Iowa and graduated from the Parkersburg High School. Vernice was united in marriage to Melvin Valentine on December 2, 1960, at the Aplington Reformed Church. During her lifetime Vernice worked at Plastronics in Grundy Center, was a cook at the Beaman Elementary School, worked at Wolf-Creek Woodworking and retired in 2005 from the Farmers Savings Bank. Vernice enjoyed Christmas shopping for her grandkids and enjoyed planting flowers, birdhouses, going out to eat with friends and barn dancing. Vernice was a member of the Beaman United Methodist Church. Vernice is survived by her husband Melvin of Beaman, her son Brian (Denise)Valentine and their children Heather and Tyson of Ankeny, her daughter Candace (Ian) Frerichs and their son Scott of Grundy Center, her three sisters: Wilma Adelmund of Gladbrook, Dorothy Adelmund of Conrad, and Lourine (Marlyn) Pruis of Grundy Center. Vernice was preceded in death by her parents Verb and Edna Syhlman, her brother Fred Syhlman and her sister Tina Benning. Funeral services for Vernice Valentine, 70, of Beaman, were held on Friday, Nov. 12, 2010, at the Beaman United Methodist Church with Pastor Hyeunmee Kang officiating. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery in Beaman. Pallbearers were Tony Pruis, David Valentine, Merlin Benning, Kendall Adelmund, Curt Valentine and Mike DeWitt. Groups from the Beaman United Methodist Church and Farmers Savings Bank were in attendance.
