Description	:	Vernie J. LaMere, 89, of South Sioux City died Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002, at a Sioux City hospital. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Michael Catholic Church, with the Rev. Paul Albenesius officiating. Burial will be in St. Michael Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with a Scriptural wake service at 7:30 p.m., at Becker-Hunt Funeral Home. Mr. LaMere was born Sept. 8, 1913, in Winnebago, Neb., the son of Charles and Bertha (White Eagle) LaMere. He graduated from Winnebago High School. He married Gail V. Dean on Oct. 8, 1937, in Dakota City. The couple moved to South Sioux City in 1944. He was employed at Armour and Company and retired from Sioux City Dressed Pork. He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church. Survivors include four sons and their wives, Charles and Jane of Pueblo, Colo., Edward and Sherry of Papillion, Neb., LaVerne "Harold" and Jean of South Sioux City and Timothy and Cheryl of Grand Junction, Colo.; four daughters, Sister Anno LaMere of Greeley, Colo., Irene LaMere of Colorado Springs, Colo., Gwen and her husband, Tim McKivergan, of Omaha and Theresa and her husband, Mark Rush, of Mesquite, Texas; a brother, Delford LaMere of Marshalltown, Iowa; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gail, on April 9, 1988; his parents; two brothers, Frankie and Cornelius; and three sisters, Ruth, Alma and Edna. Pallbearers will be Charlie, Andy and Dan LaMere, Lucas and Tyler Collins and Matt Dailey.
