Read More	* IN LOVING MEMORY OF * Vernon A. McKibben was born on Thursday; May 20, 1926 in Marshall County, Iowa. He was the son of Harold E. and Alma (Randall) McKibben. He graduated from the Albion High School in 1943 and entered the United States Army in 1944, serving over two years in the Philippines and Japan. On Sunday; August 14, 1949, he was united in marriage to Marilyn A. Ohlschlager. They lived in LeGrand; Marshall County, Iowa and Marshalltown; Marshall County, Iowa where he worked at Lennox Industries for over 38 years before retiring in 1989. He enjoyed baseball, bowling, golf, card playing, reading, fishing, hunting, gardening and watching sports. But most of all, he cherished spending time with his family. He was a longtime member of the First United Church of Christ where he held many positions. He was a member of the U.A.W. Local #893 and the Frank-Lewis-Glick American Legion Post #46. Vernon A. McKibben, 81 of Marshalltown, Iowa entered into eternal life on Wednesday; November 21, 2007, at the Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center while under the care of their staff, his family, and the Iowa River Hospice. Those left to mourn his passing are: His wife of over fifty-eight years: Marilyn of Marshalltown, Iowa. His children: Maralee & her husband: Doug Kruse of Grinnell; Poweshiek County, Iowa. Carol & her husband: Ron Baxter of Ames: Story Count, Iowa and Jeff & his wife: Kris McKibben of Newton; Jasper County, Iowa. His seven grandchildren: Michele & her husband: Steve Sparks of Norwalk; Warren County, Iowa. David & his wife: Lisa Kruse of Kellogg; Jasper County, Iowa. Christine Lapour of Indianola; Warren County, Iowa. Angela & her husband: Todd Ahrens of Indianola, Iowa. Dena Broyles of Ames, Iowa. Mindy & her husband: Jason Benson of Newton, Iowa and Kim & her husband: Joel Tichy of Baxter; Jasper County, Iowa. His nine great grandchildren. His two sisters: Marilyn Sandholm of Moline; Rock Island County, Illinois and Colleen Robertson of Madison; Jefferson County, Alabama. Also one brother: Marvin McKibben of Albion; Marshall County, Iowa. In eternal life, Vernon joins his parents and six brothers: Lowell, Lyle, Kenneth, Russell, Robert and Clifford. May they rest in peace. Visitation will be from: 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday; November 27, 2007 at the funeral home. Funeral services will begin at: 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday; November 28, 2007 at the First United Church of Christ. Cremation rites have preceded the service and private family inurnment will be in the Rose Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Marshalltwon at a later date In lieu of flowers his family suggests that memorial contributions may be directed to the First United Church of Christ, the Iowa River Hospice or the Emergency Food Shelter of Marshalltown, Iowa.
