Vernon Grummert, before the altar of lighted candles, flowers and foliage. The bride was given away by her brother, Sgt. Dale Adamson and was attended by her twin sister Helen. The bride's dress was a white fitted bodice, a full net skirt with satin applique. She wore a fingertip veil held in place by a beaded coronet. Her only ornament was a 3-strand pearl necklace. Her corsage was of pastel colors tied with a large white satin bow. The bride's maid wore a pale green taffeta dress with corsage of pastel colors tied with a large pink satin bow. The best man was Pfc. Chester Larsen. Both bridegroom and best man wore regulation army uniforms. WAC Cpt. Thor sang "I Love You Truly", "O Promise Me" and "Because", accompanied at the organ by Cpl. Jackson. Post Chaplain Donald S. Browne performed the double ring ceremony. A dinner was served at the Statler Hotel for the wedding party. A reception was given that evening at the home of Halle and Helen for about fifty guests. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. McKinley Adamson of Nelson, and the groom the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Grummert of Edgar, Nebraska. Contributor: Peggy Bargen Duey (46873059) ---------- Vernon Grummert, the son of Ernst and Elizabeth (Schleif) Grummert, was born on January 15, 1917 on a farm near Superior, NE. He passed away on January 20, 2003 at the Good Samaritan Center in Nelson, NE at the age of 86 years and 15 days. Vernon was one of 3 children. He was baptized in the Salem Lutheran Church. Vernon attended county school between Nelson and Superior. Vernon lived on a farm near Superior until 1936, when he moved to Edgar, NE to operated the family-owned business Grummert & Son Implement, until May 1963 at which time the family moved to Denver, CO. On May 7, 1944 in Washington D.C. Vernon was united in marriage to Halle Adamson. Three children were born to this union. Vernon was employed in sales until his retirement. He and Halle returned to Superior to live in 1988. Following retirement they traveled extensively throughout the North American Continent and spent the winter months in Southern States for 20 years. Preceding him in death were his parents, Ernst and Elizabeth and an infant brother. Survivors include his wife Halle of Hastings, NE; 2 daughters, Jo Hackett and husband Bill of Sioux City, IA and Kristen Kramer and husband Frank of Phoenix, AZ. and one son, Daniel of Atlanta, GE (sic - such be GA); one sister Loretta Hedstrom and husband George of Lincoln, NE; 6 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services were held on Sunday, February 2, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. from the Nelson Community United Church of Christ in Nelson, NE with Rev. Dr. Ralph Sturdy officiating. Music was congregational hymn "Sweet Hour of Prayer:, and "On Eagles Wing" and "If We Never Meet Again" was sung by Stephanie Thayer with Donna Cox as organist. Pallbearers were Bill Hackett, Richard Fehseke, Brad Houser, Frank Kramer, Mike Thayer, and Dennis Follmer. Interment with Military Honors by the Nelson American Legion Post #187 was in the Nelson Cemetery at Nelson, NE. Memorial may be given to the Nelson Community United Church of Christ or Nelson Good Samaritan Center. Klawitter-Price Funeral Home of Nelson, NE was in charge of the arrangements.
