Description	:	VERNON CHARLES RUBEL Vernon Charles Rubel was born February 12, 1921 to Charles and Ida ( Budde) Rubel on his parent's farm south of Dallas. He attended grade school in Pleasant Valley #47 and graduated from Gregory High School in 1940. He then went to helping his dad on the farm. Read More	VERNON CHARLES RUBEL Vernon Charles Rubel was born February 12, 1921 to Charles and Ida ( Budde) Rubel on his parent's farm south of Dallas. He attended grade school in Pleasant Valley #47 and graduated from Gregory High School in 1940. He then went to helping his dad on the farm. On September 24, 1945 he married Marcella Schulte at St. Martin Catholic Church in Emery. They started married life on Vernon's parent's farm. To this union three children were born: Richard on November 13, 1947, Marlene on September 15, 1950 and David on June 11, 1956. They continued to live ,work and raise their family on the farm until moving to town in August of 1991. He stayed active in the farm partnership, started 20 years ago with his son Richard. During his years Vernon stayed involved with the farm and community. He served on the Gregory School Board, the Gregory County School Board and the Dallas Elevator Board. He was still serving on the Dickens Township Board and the Gregory County Crop Improvement Board at the time of his death. He was a 4-H Leader of the Fairmont Hustlers for 25 years and continued to be involved with 4-H Achievement Days. He attended St. John Catholic Church at Paxton until it closed in 1973. He had since been an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Gregory and had served on the Parish Council. He again showed his interest in the youth by teaching catechism for several years. Vernon enjoyed life to the fullest, from spending time with his family and friends, to working with kids and getting together at Carlock on Saturday night for dancing and socializing. He is survived by his wife Marcella of Gregory, Three children and nine grandchildren: Richard and his wife Bev of Dallas and their son Steven – Marlene Sachtjen and husband Gail of Fort Morgan, Colorado and their children Scott, Mike and Tonya – David and wife Cheri of Albia, Iowa and their children Justin Charles, Jerome, Randi, Kristi and Justin Lee. And one great grandson Joshua Michael Sachtjen. Also surviving is one sister – Sister Miriam (Marcella) Rubel OSF of Denver, Colorado and one brother Leo Rubel of Springbrook, Iowa and by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Ida Rubel and three infant children.
