Burial was at Greenwood Cemetery in Creighton. Pallbearers were Jerry Richling, Richard Werner, Bob McDermott, James Werner, Joel Schwartz and Mark Walton. Vernon D. Morlan, the son of Barley and Ethel (McNeal) Morlan, was born on a farm near Walnut, Nebraska. He died Wednesday, January 3, 1990 at the Lundberg Memorial Hospital in Creighton at the age of 68 years, 9 months and 9 days. He married Della M. Tyler on December 23, 1943 in O'Neill, NE. They lived in O'Neill for two years, where he was employed by Shelhamers' driving a truck. During this time, they had one son, Thomas, who was born on their second wedding anniversary. Vernon bought his first tractor and trailer and started his trucking business in O'Neill, hauling hay and livestock. In April 1946 they moved to Creighton and in the spring of 1952, they moved to Winnetoon. He owned and operated his own trucking business for 38 years. In April of 1984 Vernon suffered a stroke, which kept him at home until his death. Vernon was a member of the Methodist Church in Creighton. Survivors include his wife, Della; one brother, Howard Morlan of Norfolk; one sister, Mildred Becker of Columbus and a host of brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; 49 nieces and nephews.
