Description	:	Vernon Henry Ernst Jr., 47, of Bellevue passed away on Sunday, February 26, 1984 after a courageous battle with cancer at the Mercy Hospital in Dubuque. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, February 29 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Bellevue with The Reverend Anthony Conrad officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Vernon Jr. was born on September 11, 1936 in rural Bellevue the son of Vernon H. and Augusta (Fischer) Ernst. He married Carolyn Volrath on August 22, 1959 in Princeton, Iowa. There were five children; three girls and two boys born to this union. Junior, as most people called him, was raised in this area and graduated from Bellevue High School. He moved to Davenport to become a Scott County Deputy Sheriff, but he eventually moved back to his home town to raise a family. He was the owner of Ernst Photography Studio and he was employed in the Industrial Relations Department at the John Deere Dubuque Works for several years. He was also a former member of the Bellevue City Council, a member of the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Bellevue Chamber of Commerce, Iowa Parole Board and a founding member of the Bellevue volunteer ambulance service. He enjoyed photography, antiques, woodworking, genealogy and family. Junior is survived by his wife Carolyn; three daughters, Denise, Beth and Theresa, all at home; two sons, Brian of Bellevue and Ted of Davenport; his parents Vernon Sr. and Augusta “Gusty” Ernst; two brothers Gerald (Dee) Ernst of Bellevue, Bob (Judy) Ernst of Bellevue; two sisters Marilyn (Gus) Doland of Bellevue and Carol (Andy) Agosta of Bettendorf; George and Midge Volrath of Princeton, Iowa; special family friends, Russ Hayward, Dick Wallace; and nieces, nephews, many other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents. May he rest in eternal peace.
