Private interment will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery in West Point. Visitation will be on Monday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with the family present, at the Minnick Funeral Home in West Point and will continue on Tuesday one hour prior to the service at the church. Vernon passed away on Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at the Scriber Good Samaritan Center. Vernon John Wegner was born on October 4, 1937 at West Point, NE to Fred and Annie (Liermann) Wegner. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in West Point. Vernon attended St. Paul Lutheran School and graduated from West Point High School in 1955. On November 18, 1955, Vernon enlisted to serve in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged on November 2, 1959. He worked in Omaha prior to his marriage. On October 7, 1966, he was united in marriage to Cynthia J. Tietz in Omaha. The couple lived in Fremont before moving to West Point, where Vernon was employed at West Point Rendering and later IBP. After retiring, he went back to work at Valmont Coatings in West Point. Vernon was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in West Point, where he was very active, serving as the caretaker, and had served as the Treasurer and elder. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, walking and working. Survivors include-daughter- Allison and Fred “Bob” Fachman of Hooper, NE and family- Mindi and Brett Egbers of Hooper and children Joshua and Rhett, Toni Fachman of Hooper, NE; daughter-Kim and Chris Brockmann of West Point, NE and family-Eric and Mary Brockmann of West Point and children-Josie, Hunter, Katie, Blaize and Olivia, Heather and Michael Nielsen of Lincoln, NE and children-Myles, Parker and Emmit, and Aaron and Amanda Brockman of West Point, NE and sons-Maddox and Baylor; son-Brad and Tracy Wegner of Schuyler, NE and sons-Walker and Vincent; and son-Jonathan Wegner of West Point, NE and daughter Jordan; and a sister-Vernelle Wegner of West Point, NE. Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, wife-Cynthia on March 18, 2007, 3 brothers- Vern in infancy, Vergene and Virgil, and two sisters-Vernita Vanderworker and Vera Wegner."
