Description	:	Vernon L. Moen, 79, of Powers Lake, ND, died Sunday, April 26, 2009, in the Tioga Hospital. Vernon was born December 16, 1929, on the family farm in Lunds Valley. He was the son of Martin and Hannah Moen. Vernon attended school in Lunds Valley and graduated from Powers Lake in 1947. After graduation, Vernon joined the Army and served in the Korean War. After his retirement from the... Read More	Vernon L. Moen, 79, of Powers Lake, ND, died Sunday, April 26, 2009, in the Tioga Hospital. Vernon was born December 16, 1929, on the family farm in Lunds Valley. He was the son of Martin and Hannah Moen. Vernon attended school in Lunds Valley and graduated from Powers Lake in 1947. After graduation, Vernon joined the Army and served in the Korean War. Once discharged, Vernon came back to Powers Lake and worked for the highway department before going to work for the railroad. Vernon worked for the railroad for 37 years prior to his retirement. After his retirement from the railroad he took over the family farming operation and really enjoyed the time spent on the farm. Vernon married Lucille Jensen in 1955 and was the proud father of four children. Vernon enjoyed his days playing a game of golf or snooker and having coffee with his buddies. Vernon loved the company of his dog Leroy and spending time with his grandchildren. Vernon was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Powers Lake. Vernon is survived by: his daughters, Roxanne (Mike) Turpin of Sacramento, California; Barb (Troy) Schoenthaler of Greeley, Colorado; sons, John (Belinda) Moen of Powers Lake, and Grant (Roxane) Moen of Greeley, Colorado; nine grandchildren, Erik Hegstad, Brandon Moen, Al Turpin, Hannah Moen, Justin Hegstad, Paige Moen, Austin Moen, Jacob Schoenthaler and Ben Schoenthaler; one sister, Helen Frounfelter of Seattle, Washington; and numerous nieces and nephews. Vernon was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers and six sisters. Funeral services: Scheduled for Thursday, April 30, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Powers Lake. Visitation: Today, April 29, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the church, followed by a family gathering at 7 p.m., and Thursday from 9 a.m. to service time in the church. Burial: Zion Lutheran Cemetery at Lunds Valley. (Springan Funeral Home, Stanley)
