He was employed at the International Harvester Company before joining the Springfield Police Department in 1959, where he served as a patrolman until 1966. Born in Fleming County, KY on March 14, 1934, he served in the U.S. Air Force from 1954 to 1958. He later used this expertise as a training officer for the Clark County Sheriff's Department. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of fifty years, Ruth Ellen Harlow, who died in June 2005. His survivors include four children and their spouses: Vickie and Mike Litton; Valerie and George Leibold, of Springfield; Tim and Amy Harlow, of Enon, OH and Jim Harlow, of Canyon Country, CA; four grandchildren and their; four grandchildren and their spouses: Kelly and Eric Fried, Paul Leibold, Jacob Harlow, Sarah and Josh Sarven; two great-grandchildren, Brody Sarven and Payton Fried; three sisters and their spouses: Joyce and Bill Webb, Faye Patterson, Judy and Earl Click; two sisters-in-law, Claribel Massie and Vivian Williams, all of Springfield; and brother-in-law, Damon "Bud" Wilt; numerous nieces and nephews, and close friend, Doris Bess.
