He was born June 14, 1914 on his great grandfather's homestead on Hanson Road to Arthur Wesley and Florabelle Gray. Vern received his education at Lourdes Academy. Read More	OBIT: Vernon "Vern" Rowley Gray, 87, lifelong resident of Ellensburg, died December 20, 2001, at Kittitas Valley Community Hospital. He was born June 14, 1914 on his great grandfather's homestead on Hanson Road to Arthur Wesley and Florabelle Gray. Vern received his education at Lourdes Academy. He married Laura Ruth Weaver on March 12, 1934 in Yakima. Vern worked for many years as a mechanic, starting with the U. S. Forest Service in Cle Elum, then for Wippel's Service Station on Main Street. He was a diesel mechanic for Washington Motorcoach and was a mechanic for the Buick garage (where the present day Moose Lodge is located) until the dealership closed. In the 1940s, he worked for a time as a logger and in the early 1960s, he started Motortech (located at what is now Jim's Glass) and operated it until his retirement in 1986. After his retirement, he pursued his mining dreams in the Library area. He was a member of the Eagles and the Early Irons Club. His hobbies included ham C. B. radios (his handle was Rockrabbit), antique cars and for many years, he raced limited hydroplanes with his son. Vern is survived by his daughter, Gloria (Jim) Shatz of Dryden; son, Wesley (JoAnne) Gray of Ellensburg; three grandsons and three granddaughters; five great grandchildren; nephew, Donald Gray of Carmel, Indiana; and special friends, Dzintra Rietsts and Marie Raymond. His parents, his wife Laura Ruth, brothers Stanley, Wesley, and Christopher, half-brother Frank Lamb and half-sister Bonnie Bush, preceded him in death. Visitation will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., December 26 and 27 at Steward and Williams Chapel and again December 28 from 8:30 a.m. until noon. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., December 28 at Steward and Williams Chapel, with burial to follow at IOOF Cemetery in Ellensburg. Ellensburg Daily Record, December 21, 2001
