Description	:	Vernon Goedeken, 87, of Columbus, Nebraska, died Tuesday, December 11, 2012, at the Golden Living Center in Columbus. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 15 at 10:30 AM at Christ Lutheran Church with Rev. Kris Rebentisch officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday from 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM at Gass Haney Funeral Home and continue on Saturday from 9:30 AM until service time at the church. Goedeken was born March 25, 1925, in rural Columbus, Nebraska, to Emil and Martha (Schmale) Goedeken. He was baptized on April 26, 1925, at Christ Lutheran Church and confirmed there on May 15, 1938. Vernon graduated from Kramer High School in 1942. On December 10, 1950, Vernon was united in marriage to Betty Sorensen at Christ Lutheran Church. Together with Betty, they farmed north of Columbus and raised their six children. Vernon enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards, collecting coins, and visiting new places when traveling. However, he valued the time spent with his family as most important. Vernon was committed to the education of young people as he served many years on the school boards of District 12 and District 10. He was a charter member of the Cornhusker Livestock 4-H Club, served on the board of directors for the Husker Co-op, and a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Platte Center.
