He was born Nov. 29, 1927, in Henry County’s Freedom Township, the son of Fred and Minnie (Gerken) Holers. In 1950, he married Jeannette Gerken, who survives. He was a graduate of Bowling Green State University where he received a degree in accounting and business. He worked for State Farm Insurance, Napoleon, and had one of the first rural State Farm Insurance agencies in the area for 30 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during World War II as a sergeant in Italy... Read More	Vernon W. Holers, 77, Napoleon, died Sunday April 3, 2005, in Florida Hospital Waterman, Tavares, Fla. He was born Nov. 29, 1927, in Henry County’s Freedom Township, the son of Fred and Minnie (Gerken) Holers. In 1950, he married Jeannette Gerken, who survives. He was a graduate of Bowling Green State University where he received a degree in accounting and business. He worked for State Farm Insurance, Napoleon, and had one of the first rural State Farm Insurance agencies in the area for 30 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during World War II as a sergeant in Italy where he was a guard overseeing German prisoners of war. He received an award from the city of Colloredo, Italy, for friendship for his work during the war. He was a driver for Quadco Rehabilitation Center in Stryker, a Napoleon Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year in 1988, a volunteer with Agape House in Florida and Henry County United Way and board of directors member for Henry County Society for the Handicapped. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Napoleon, where he held various offices including serving on building and finance committee. He was an associate member of Faith Lutheran Church, Eustis, Fla., and a member of Napoleon American Legion Post 300, Napoleon Optimist Club. Also surviving are two sons, V. Michael (Jill Norris) of Denver, Colo., and Jeffrey (Teri Marcus), Altamonte Springs, Fla.; a daughter, Mrs. Jeff (Julie) Pierron, Westerville; a brother, Larry (Connie), Quitman, La.; and six grandchildren. Preceding him in death was a sister, Lorna Ludeman. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in St. Paul Lutheran Church, Napoleon, with Revs. Norm Koy and Peter Marcis officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Memory Gardens, Defiance County, with military rites accorded by joint Napoleon military posts.
