Description	:	Verona Marie Behrens, 85, of Columbus, Nebraska, entered into God’s eternal rest on Thursday, June 9, 2016, at Ridgewood Rehabilitation & Care Center in Seward, Nebraska. The celebration of life service will be held on Tuesday, June 14, 2016, at 10:30 AM at Christ Lutheran Church, rural Columbus with Rev. John E. Nelson, Jr. officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Gass-Haney Funeral Home and continue on Tuesday from 9:30 AM until service time at the church. Read More	Verona Marie Behrens, 85, of Columbus, Nebraska, entered into God’s eternal rest on Thursday, June 9, 2016, at Ridgewood Rehabilitation & Care Center in Seward, Nebraska. The celebration of life service will be held on Tuesday, June 14, 2016, at 10:30 AM at Christ Lutheran Church, rural Columbus with Rev. John E. Nelson, Jr. officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Gass-Haney Funeral Home and continue on Tuesday from 9:30 AM until service time at the church. There will be a family prayer service on Tuesday at 10:15 AM at the church. In lieu of flowers and plants, memorials are suggested to Christ Lutheran Church or family choice. Verona Behrens was born October 17, 1930, two miles southeast of Leigh, NE, to Harry and Emma (Vahlenkamp) Schroeder. Her father, Harry, died of tuberculosis in 1934 when Verona was three and her brother, Allen, was seven. Emma married Rikus Rosendahl, a wonderful step-father, who farmed just west of the family, in 1937. Verona was baptized on November 16, 1930, by Rev. F.B. Kunz and confirmed her Christian faith on May 20, 1945, by Rev. Harry J Mumm, both at St. John Lutheran Church, Leigh, NE, where she taught Sunday school for a number of years. Verona attended District 40, rural Leigh and graduated from Leigh High School in 1948. She worked at Hobel Brothers in Leigh, until her marriage. On June 28, 1951, Verona was united in marriage to Norman Behrens, at St. John Lutheran Church. In January, 1952, Norman entered the US Army and served during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in October, 1953, and returned home to Verona and the family farm in rural Columbus where they raised cattle. Several years later, they built a home near today’s Columbus airport and later moved to their home on Brunken Street in Columbus. Verona was a dedicated employee of Dale Electronics in Columbus, with 38 years of service before retiring. Norman passed away November 11, 2005. When her health began to decline, Verona moved to Cottonwood House in June, 2013. She later moved to Ridgewood Care Center in Seward, NE in April of 2016. Norman and Verona were devoted members of Christ Lutheran Church, where she was lay shepherd for many years and a member of Altar Guild. She enjoyed coin collecting in her earlier years, vacationing with Norman, and spending time with friends and family, especially Thursday nights with her lady friends in her later years. Verona cherished her dogs, especially her last dog “Peaches.” To those who knew and loved her, she will always be remembered as a kind and caring person, always willing to visit and serve those in need. She smiled until the end and never grew tired of worshiping her Savior in song, devotion, and prayer, which brought peace to her heart.
