Veronica Ann Gross was born to George and Frances (Schwartzenberger) Gross on the family farm 17 miles south of Napoleon on December 12, 1943. She went to country school two miles south of their farm thru the 8th grade, and then attended Catholic school in Hankinson before deciding to stay home to care for her ill mother. Read More	Veronica Ann Masset, 76, of LaMoure, ND, passed away December 9, 2020 at Sanford Health, Fargo, ND. Veronica Ann Gross was born to George and Frances (Schwartzenberger) Gross on the family farm 17 miles south of Napoleon on December 12, 1943. She went to country school two miles south of their farm thru the 8th grade, and then attended Catholic school in Hankinson before deciding to stay home to care for her ill mother. Veronica was a true caregiver at heart. Veronica started working early in life, first at the Linton Hospital as a nursing assistant and then at St. Alexius Hospital in Bismarck. During this time, she met her future husband, Wilfred Masset. On June 19, 1963, they were married at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church 17 miles south and 3 miles west of Napoleon, officiated by her brother who was ordained 8 days earlier. Veronica always thought she was special being they were the first couple Mgsr. Val married. After their marriage, they lived in Linton and Jamestown before settling in LaMoure. Veronica started a daycare, which she operated for 31 years. Every little one that came through the door was special to her; acting like if you are in my care, “you’re mine”. She always kept track of the kids after they would start school, get married and have their own children, saying “that’s one of my kids”. After her retirement, she loved to go fishing, to rummage sales, and canning Willie’s garden produce. She had a lifelong passion of caring for others which she showed in many ways. One could always count on Veronica if help were needed. But her grandkids were priority and she loved cooking and making caramel rolls with them. Veronica was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother. She loved her life and all the challenges she faced. You never left her house hungry or unloved. She is survived by her husband Wilfred; daughters Sheila (Jim) Kringlie and Michele Eckmann; daughter-in-law Peggy Masset; son, Tim (Denise) Masset; 18 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters, Mary Vetter and Donna Hoffman; sisters-in-law, Christine Gross, Mary Ann Gross, Bismarck and Elaine Gross; brothers-in-law, Edwin Ternes and Don Hertz. Veronica was preceded in death by her parents, George and Frances Gross; son Col. Glen Masset; brothers, Clemens, Joe, George and Msgr. Valentine Gross; sisters, Frances (Clarence) Lindeman, Barbara Ternes, Helen Hertz and Lucille (Terry) Scherr; brothers-in-law, John Vetter and John Hoffman; niece, Veronica Desi and nephew, Kelly Scherr. Visitation will be held on Monday, December 14, 2020 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. followed by Rosary at 6:30 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, LaMoure. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Masks are required. Veronica’s service will be live streamed on her obituary page. Her committal graveside service will be at St. Anthony’s Catholic Cemetery, Linton, ND on Tuesday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. Veronica was loving and generous in all who met her.
