Read More	Tuesday, February 24, 2009 Veronica F. Gross, 86, of Dubuque, and formerly of Cascade, died at 1:08 p.m., Monday, Feb. 16, 2009, at Finley Hospital in Dubuque. Friends and relatives of Veronica called from 2-8 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 19, 2009, at the Reiff Funeral Home in Cascade, where a wake service was held at 4 p.m. Services for Veronica were held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Feb. 20, 2009, at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Cascade, with the Rev. Douglas Loecke officiating. Concelebrating was the Rev. Mark Ressler. Assisting deacon was Steve Strang. Eucharistic minister was Tom Jones. Lectors were Carmen Gross, Bradley Gross and Garrett Jones. Petitions were read by Sara Hanssen, Kyle Gross, Adam Kuiper and Tim Kuiper. Placing of the Pall was done Fred Gross, Ann Kuiper, Mary Jones and Bette Smith. Gift bearers were Treyton Hanssen, Sam Smith and Jaeden Hanssen. Musicians were Ali Jones, Megan Smith, Gail Hirtz, Pat Moore and the St. Matthias Guitar Choir. Burial was held in Calvary Cemetery in Cascade. Casket bearers for Veronica were Larry Decker, Randy McClain, Mark Hoerner, Dave McDermott and Bill McCarthy. Veronica was born Feb. 23, 1922, in Bernard, daughter of Lawrence and Teresa (Takes) Decker. She is a graduate of the former St. Patrick's School in Garryowen. On Nov. 19, 1946, she was united in marriage to Wilfred Gross at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Garryowen. Veronica lived in Cascade for 62 years, and had many friends to laugh with and play cards. She preferred to stay in Cascade instead of traveling other places, and she and Willie even came home early on their honeymoon. Veronica loved to play the piano, sing with family and friends and work crossword puzzles. She was a voracious reader whose passion later in life was to visit "the boat". Veronica enjoyed her life, especially being with family and friends. Her sense of humor, with a sharp mind kept everyone on their toes. She loved to go to plays, movies and for the first time in her life, the circus in 2008. She left a mark on everyone she met and we will all miss her. She was a member of St. Matthias Parish in Cascade. She is survived by one son, Fred (Joan) Gross, of Dubuque; three daughters, Ann Kuiper, of Los Alamos, N.M., Mary (Tom) Jones, of Davenport, and Bette (Greg) Smith, of Holmen, Wis.; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; six sisters, Loretta McCarthy, of Bernard, Mary Catherine Connolly, of Dubuque, Rose Mary (Bob) Devaney, of Monticello, Jean McClain, of Dubuque, Betty Johnson, of Denver, Colo., and Sally (Jim) Hoerner, of Key West. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wilfred Gross on Dec. 3, 1988; one sister, Imelda McDermott; and two brothers, Leo Hirtz and Earl Decker.
