Description	:	Vesta was one of 6 kids of Charles Melvin Grieve and Emma Florence Grieve nee Dykeman of New Brunswick: The 5 shown below and James Robert who died at birth in 1922. They all were born and grew up on the family farm in Harvey Station, New Brunswick, a farm originally settled by their great great great grandparents Grieve in 1837. She and Ray met in Detroit after WWII when she visited an uncle, Warren Dykeman , who was working with Ray at a Ford factory. They were married near the home of Ray's sister in... They all were born and grew up on the family farm in Harvey Station, New Brunswick, a farm originally settled by their great great great grandparents Grieve in 1837. She and Ray met in Detroit after WWII when she visited an uncle, Warren Dykeman , who was working with Ray at a Ford factory. They were married near the home of Ray's sister in NY. She and Ray had children Lannes Melvin Ray Vick and Verlene Vesta Hughes nee Vick. In her travels with Ray in the US Navy they were stationed at Charleston, Baltimore, Jacksonville, Norfolk, Hawaii (twice), San Diego (twice), and Vallejo, CA. She was a dedicated Navy wife and good Christian. Verlene was born in 1950 in Canada because Ray was in the US Navy stationed off of Korea during the Korean war. So Vesta took Lannes and drove from Charleston to her family home in New Brunswick to stay until Verlene was born. Then Vesta drove across country by herself with the two kids to San Francisco where she sailed to Honolulu to meet Ray. Among other jobs including working at the Harvey Creamery, she worked in the receiving department of a large department store chain from 1964 until her retirement in 1983. The best mother anyone could have. Died at her home, 811 Felicita Ave, Spring Valley of metastatic colon cancer. We brought her ashes to Harvey in 1990 and put them beside her parents.
