She was born July 4, 1897, in Mingo, Ia., where she lived until coming to California in 1922. She had resided in Oakland before coming to Fortuna in 1945. She had worked for the American Rubber Co. in Oakland and the Humboldt Beacon for a while. She was a Gold Star Mother, losing her son, Earl Floyd Neal, in World War II. She was born July 4, 1897, in Mingo, Ia., where she lived until coming to California in 1922. She had resided in Oakland before coming to Fortuna in 1945. She had worked for the American Rubber Co. in Oakland and the Humboldt Beacon for a while. She was a Gold Star Mother, losing her son, Earl Floyd Neal, in World War II. She was a member of the Mingo Methodist Church, the Typographical Union Auxiliary, No. 26, of Oakland, and Sunset Post No. 2207, VFW Auxiliary of Fortuna. She is survived by her husband, Chester C. Craddock of Fortuna; Mrs. Berniece Buffington of Fortuna and Mrs. Carmen Reid of Rohnerville; son, Chester Craddock, Jr., of Scotia; 12 grandchildren, most of whom live in southern Humboldt, and a number of other relatives in the Bay Area and in Iowa. Funeral services will be held Saturday, 10 a.m. in the Chapel of Goble's Fortuna Mortuary with the Rev. Ray F. Magnuson officiating. Private interment will be at Ocean View Cemetery, Eureka. Compilation of funeral notices published in the Eureka Humboldt Standard on November 3 and 4, 1960. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Vesta Ileon Stier was the daughter of John and Polly (Emery) Stier. She was married to Earl Floyd Neal in 1914 and they had two children, Alean Berniece (7/1/1915 - 10/5/1970) and Earl F. (10/9/1920 - 12/21/1944). It is unknown when her husband, Earl, died but her marriage records to Chester Craddock, Sr., in 1924 show she was widowed. Ileon and Chester were married on March 29, 1924, in Oakland, California. They had two children, Chester Jr. and Clarice Carmen, while living in Oakland. By 1944, they had moved to Humboldt County and made their home there.
