Description	:	The Windsor Star, March 20, 1952 Funeral services for Victor F. Marentette, 75, Dearborn, Michigan, a native of Windsor, will be held Friday in Detroit with burial in Windsor. Mr. Marentette was a retired Ford Motor Company employee who died Tuesday at Mount Carmel Hospital following a brief illness. He was born in Windsor and lived here until he moved to Detroit 40 years ago. Read More	The Windsor Star, March 20, 1952 Funeral services for Victor F. Marentette, 75, Dearborn, Michigan, a native of Windsor, will be held Friday in Detroit with burial in Windsor. Mr. Marentette was a retired Ford Motor Company employee who died Tuesday at Mount Carmel Hospital following a brief illness. He was born in Windsor and lived here until he moved to Detroit 40 years ago. Funeral services will be held at St. Sebastian Church Friday at 930 am, and burial will be in the family plot in St. Alphonsus Cemetery. Mr. Marentette was a nephew of the late Victor E. Marentette who operated Marentette’s bookstore. His father operated a blacksmith’s shop on Market Lane near the present city market. Victor Marentette served In the Windsor Boys Brigade and was later a Sergeant in the 21st Essex Fusiliers. A South African War veteran, he was one of the original 17 men from Windsor who enlisted for the South African War. He served as a Private in the Second Battalion of the Royal Canadian Regiment from 1899 to 1900. He was wounded in the Battle of Paardeburg on February 18, 1900. His death reduces to four the number of survivors among the number of enlistees of the South African War. Many of the South African veterans will attend the service at the cemetery on Friday, which precedes their anniversary dinner being held at the Prince Edward Hotel. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie; one son, Romayne of Dearborn; two sisters, Mrs. Frank Fournier of Grosse Isle and Mrs. William Peck of Windsor; and five grandchildren. *son of Charles and Anastasia Marentette; predeceased by wife Kathryn and son, Jerome
