MULLINS - Jerome Victor Alford, 44, drowned accidentally in the Little Pee Dee River near Cartwheel Landing Saturday afternoon while on a fishing trip. According to Coroner Bill Drew, Mr. Alford, who was fishing alone, apparently fell out of the boat and drowned. The body was recovered in shallow water about 10 feet from the boat. Alford and Mrs. Mattie Smith Alford with whom he made his home. Surviving, besides the mother, are three sisters, Miss Virginia Alford of the home, Mrs. Mildred Byrd of Charleston and Mrs. Dorothy Cornett of Bangor, Me.; four brothers, Herbert Alford of Conway, William Alford of Elkin, NC, Stanley Alford of Tacoma Park, Md. and Neal Alford of Miami, Fla.
