Description	:	Victor "Vic" L. Wilke, 92, of Columbus, Nebraska, died Sunday, May 5, 2013, at the Sky Ridge Medical Center in Lone Tree, Colorado. The celebration of faith and life service will be held on Thursday, May 9 at 10:30 AM at Christ Lutheran Church with Rev. Aaron Witt and Rev. Glen Wurdeman officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery with military honors by The American Legion, Hartman Post 84 Honor Guard. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM at Gass Haney Funeral Home and continue on Thursday from 9:30 AM until service time at the church.... Read More	Victor "Vic" L. Memorials may be directed to the Victor L. and Arlene V. Wilke Church Worker Scholarship Fund, the University of Nebraska Scholarship Fund, or the donor's choice. Vic was born on May 17,1920, in Columbus to John Emil and Wilhelmina (Muth) Wilke. Vic was baptized on June 13, 1920, and attended Christ Lutheran School. He confirmed his Christian faith on May 13, 1934. Vic was inducted into the US Army on September 24,1942, and served his country during World War II for three years. He was a member of the 235th Engineer Combat Battalion, fifth army unit that was the first to bridge the Serchie River below Viareggie Italy. After fulfilling his commitment in the army, Vic returned home to the family farm. On September 28, 1947, he was united in marriage to Arlene Wurdeman. Vic and Arlene farmed north of Columbus and had three children. Vic was a lifetime member of Christ Lutheran Church where he served his church as an elder and in other elected offices. After moving to Columbus in 1980 and retiring Vic was able to spend more time fishing, hunting, playing cards, and enjoying coffee with his friends and family. Vic enjoyed joking and sparring with friends and family where he appropriately earned his "ornery" title.
