Doonan, Sr., 66 Feb. 27, 1934 - Aug. 18, 2000 EXIRA — Victor Norman Doonan, Sr., son of Arthur Earl and Elma Mae Gaer Doonan, was born Feb. 27, 1934, at his parents' home in Elk Horn, and died Aug. 18, 2000, at the Bishop Clarkson Hospital in Omaha, NE, at age 66 years, five months and 21 days. Vic was baptized at the Baptist Church in Elk Horn. He attended Elk Horn Community Schools, graduating in 1952. He moved to California where he worked for the oil refineries. He returned to Iowa and was employed at a service station in Harlan, which he later purchased and named it Vic's Gulf Station. Nov. 14, 1959, he married Delores Robertson at the Methodist Church in Harlan. They lived in Harlan until 1972, when he sold the service station in Harlan and purchased Jacobsen Oil Co. in Exira, renaming it Doonan Oil Co. Vic operated the service station until he was forced to sell the station due to ill health in 1982. He was a member of the Federated United Church of Christ in Exira. He was a member of the Isaac Wilson League and did trapshooting there. Preceding him in death were his parents. Survivors include his wife, Delores Doonan of Exira; his children, Andrea (Gene) Crane of Roseville, CA; Victor Norman , Doonan, Jr. and Brenda Noel of Cedar Rapids; Diane (Mitchell) Munch; Margaret (Mike) Haley, Jr.; and Lori Doonan, all of Exira; his grandchildren, Gina Crane-Hale (Kyle) Hale of Sacramento, CA; Samantha Doonan and Rachel Doonan, both of South Dakota; Anthony Doonan of Texas; Brandi Munch, Megan Munch, Dustin Munch, Jason Haley, Cory Haley, Quinton Haley, all of Exira; Nathan Inman and Joey Inman, both of Audubon and Cheyanne Wahlert of Exira; his great grandson, Clayton Hale of Sacramento, CA; his brothers and their wives, Donald (Charlotte) Doonan of Elk Horn; Verle (Cookie) Doonan of Harlan; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Walter Robertson, Jr. (Lorene) of Hortonville, MN; Ole Robertson of Sisseton, SD; Paul Robertson and his wife of Veblen, SD; Basil (Phyllis) Robertson of Walthill, NE; his aunt, Doris Gaer of Ankeny; and his uncle, Lawrence Gaer of Arizona; nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives. Funeral services were conducted by Pastor Nancy Jensen Aug. 21, 2000, in the Exira Christian Church in Exira. Burial was in St. John's Cemetery west of Exira. Honorary casket bearers were Kyle Hale and Clayton Hale. Casket bearers were Gina Crane-Hale, Jason Haley, Brandi Munch, Cory Haley, Nathan Inman, Samantha Doonan, Megan Munch, Joey Inman, Rachel Doonan, Dustin Munch, Cheyanne Wahlert, Anthony Doonan and Quinton Haley.
