Description	:	Victor Lander, son of Olof and Betty Lander, was born on a farm in Garden Township, near Madrid, August 24, 1886. The family lived in the Madrid vicinity for a number of years, later moving to near Stratford and he attended school in the communities where he lived. He was united in marriage to Maude Clara Lindberg on November 24, 1909 in Lake View, Iowa. Read More	Victor Lander, son of Olof and Betty Lander, was born on a farm in Garden Township, near Madrid, August 24, 1886. The family lived in the Madrid vicinity for a number of years, later moving to near Stratford and he attended school in the communities where he lived. He was united in marriage to Maude Clara Lindberg on November 24, 1909 in Lake View, Iowa. They came at once to Stratford to make their home where earlier that year he had purchased a photography studio. To this union was born one son, Clayton H. Lander. The family moved to Boone in 1921 where he operated a photography studio in the home, 115 Story Street. Vic, as he was known to his friends, was a lover of the outdoors and his hobbies were hunting and fishing. He had been a member of the Central Christian Church for 35 years, and also a member of the Rotary Club for 10 years. Mr. Lander had been in failing health since suffering a heart attack five years earlier, but continued with his work until the last year when complications set in and compelled him to spend a great deal of time in hospitals, where everything possible was done to relieve him of his suffering, but to no avail, and he slept peacefully away in the Boone County Hospital the morning of Sept. 29, 1956 at the age of 70 years, 1 month and 5 days. He was survived by his wife; son, Clayton and daughter-in-law, Leah; five grandchildren, Larry David, Thomas Lee, John Alan, Joan Elaine and Kathryn Ann; several nieces and nephews; three brothers, Arthur of Ogden, Henry of St. David, Ariz., and Clifford of Humboldt. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister. Memorial services were held in the Central Christian Church in Boone on Tuesday, October 2 at 2:30 p.m., where a large group of friends and relatives had gathered to pay their respects. Music was furnished by Mrs. Lewis Ross, organist, and the men's quartet, composed of Egon Jacobson, Harold Gifford, Kay Reed and Robert Gumtau, who sang "In the Garden," and "Nearer My God to Thee," favorite hymns of Mr. Lander. Those serving as pallbearers were Vic Donaldson, Clarke Abbott, Dick Wiebe, John Erickson, Raymond Veale and Robert Patrick. Ladies in charge of flowers were Mrs. Eva Blanchard, Mrs. Ruth Veale and Mrs. Glen Severt. The remains were laid to rest in the family lot in Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone.
