Many thanks to FAG contributor Kathy Monical for the following information: Victor Richard Herman Brauer, son of Henry Brauer and Johanna, nee Ortgies, was born on March 11, 1922 in Seward county, Nebraska, near Trinity Lutheran church northwest of Malcolm. He was confirmed April 5, 1936. On March 14, 1948, he was married to Miss Eileen Bartels of Tobias, Nebraska. He farmed on the place where he was born, except in the years 1945-1947, when he served in the second world war. He joined Trinity Congregation as a voting member in 1949 and served as an elder since October 1952. Mr. Brauer became seriously ill on Wednesday morning, July 15, was taken to Memorial Hospital in the afternoon and on Friday night to Lincoln General. There he was immediately placed in an iron lung. About twelve hours later on Saturday, July 18, he passed away, a victim of polio, at the age of 31 years, 4 months and 7 days. Surviving are his wife and three children, Dennis Gene, 4, Diane Carol, 2 and Larry Lynn, 3 months; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Brauer of Seward; three brothers, Adolf of Seward, Walter of Garland and Paul of Dwight; five sisters, Mrs. Sophie Bender of Milford, Mrs. Marie Bender of Clarks, Miss Hilda of Omaha, Mrs. Louise Walla of Lincoln, and Mrs. Viola Wolfe of Seward; his parents-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Bartels of Tobias, and many other relatives and many friends. Services were conducted Sunday afternoon, July 21, at the home and at Trinity Lutheran church near Malcolm, with the Rev. William Petersen officiating. Burial was in Greenwood cemetery.
