A memorial tribute to his life will be held Friday, December 9. at 2:00 p.m. at the Antioch Baptist Church, near Florien, Louisiana, with Bro. Lee Dickson and Bro. Richard Partridge officiating. Interment will follow in the Antioch Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 8, 2011, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Warren Meadows Funeral Home in Many. Mr. Victor was predeceased by his parents, John F. and Argirena Newton Van Vekhoven; his wives, Iva Pearl Miller Van Veckhoven; and Alma Bossier Small Van Veckhoven; and his grandson, Victor Lee Dickson. He is survived by his children, Nelda Hutzler of Florien; Faye Norsworthy, and husband Wayne, of Coushatta; Barbara Dickson, and husband Lee, of Natchitoches; Jackie Small, and wife Linda, of Many, Edna Small Cantrell of Baytown, Texas; six grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren, host of nieces, nephews and friends. Mr. Victor, the grandson of Belgium immigrants who came to America in 1854, loved this great country. As a young boy, he remembered our soliders coming home from WWI, and proudly chose to serve his country himself as a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), helping to construct much of Camp (Fort) Polk prior to the start of WWII. He later worked and retired after many years of service to the Continental Can Company, carefully planting and caring for thousands of acres of trees throughout western Louisiana. He was a very humble man, known as "Granddad" to scores of people. He loved his Lord, his family, his church, and became more anxious as the years passed, to go on to his "heavenly home" to be with those who have gone before him. Active pallbearers will be family members and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be the Men's Sunday School Class at Antioch Baptist Church, and Mr. Jimmy Sheffield. A special thanks to Dr. Jack Corley, the staff and nurses at Sabine Rehabilitation Center, and so many others of you who added quantity and quality to his life, especially in recent years. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the "Acts 1:8 Missions Fund" of the District Eight Baptist Convention, P O Box 2880, Natchitoches, LA 71457; a fund which assists Young People each year to go on Mission Trips and share the Good News of Jesus Christ throughout America and all around the world.
