Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the chapel of Solt Funeral Home in Central City with Rev. Paul Blanchard officiating. Vic was born Dec. 15, 1919, in Quincy, Mass., to Victor A. and Elsie E. (Nieminen) Snell. Survivors of the immediate family include daughter MaryAnn and Kermit Keeling of Baltimore, Md. Additional survivors include two nephews, Steve Benson and family of Texas and Dave Benson and family of Grand Island; and one niece, Jolene Moseman and family of Ft. Calhoun; as well as extended family and friends. Vic graduated from Quincy High School in 1937, and from 1937-1941 he worked for the Consumer Cooperative, Inc. He served in the U.S. Air Force from Oct. 15, 1941 to Nov. 25, 1945. Sgt. Victor Snell met his future wife, school teacher Mary Gilley of Central City, in Grand Island. They were married in Topeka, Kan. March 5, 1944, and not too long afterwards, he served overseas in the CBI Theater. In August of 1950, Vic received his master's degree in economics, cum laude, from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln with an emphasis in industrial relations. He helped open the first State Farm Insurance office in Texas after graduation. Relocating to Houston, Vic entered the oil and gas industry from 1952 – 1974, serving a variety of positions including industrial relations director and a safety engineer. Companies include Exxon-Mobile and Halliburton. He retired from the Texas Association of Business in December 1984. Besides being an avid golfer, Vic was an active member of the Central City Masonic Lodge, The Order of Eastern Star Arbor Chapter #200, the Shriners, as well as the American Legion Post #6 and VFW. He was also a member of the United Methodist Church in Central City. Vic was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters-in-law Robert and Esther Gilley of Central City and Verner and Alma Benson of Grand Island. Memorials are suggested to the Nebraska Christian Foundation c/o Snell Scholarship Fund; 1847 Inskip Avenue; Central City, NE 68826.
