Read More	Funeral Services Held Wednesday Mrs. Victoria Yager dies at age 81 in Spencer; Came to Dickenson County in 1910 Funeral services for Mrs. Victoria Yager, 81, who passed away Tuesday, April 5 at Spencer, Iowa were held here Wednesday at the Federated Church with Rev. G. R. Albro officiating. Burial took place at Audubon. Victoria Hockett, daughter of Jonathan and Susan Hockett, was born July 18, 1865 (1856) at Fort Wayne, Indiana. That same year, her parents moved to Iowa. She had one brother, Al Hockett, one sister, Lou and a half sister, Emily Elwood all of whom preceded her in death. She was married to John M. Yager, February 14, 1875 in Jasper County, Iowa. They resided there two years then moved to Audubon County, Iowa. In line with the adventurous restlessness of those pioneer days, they moved, via the covered wagon route first to Kansas to be routed by grasshoppers and drought, back to Audubon County, later to Texas and back again to Audubon County where they bought a farm. At a later date, they sold their farm and resided in Audubon until Mr. Yager's death in 1905. In 1910, Mrs. Yager accompanied her daughter's family, Mr. and Mrs. S. B. Bates to their home in Dickinson County, later establishing her own home in Milford where she made many friends who maintained their interest and respect through the years. In 1920, she was married to Joseph E. Yager of Palisade, Colorado, brother of her deceased husband. He passed away December 3, 1935 and she returned to Iowa to be near her daughter and family. She re-established her home in Milford and lived here until last autumn when the infirmities of old age made it necessary to make her home with her daughter and family, who cared for her tenderly throughout the long winter of failing health. She was a Christian, converted in the Methodist Church during her girlhood in Jasper County. Her membership at the time of her passing was with the Federated Church here. She took special pleasure in the Lend-a-Hand Sunday School class of which she was a member. She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Edna Bates and a son-in-law, Sheldon Bates of Spencer, Iowa, eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
