Description	:	Funeral services for Mrs. Vida Souter, 67, of Brooklyn, Iowa, were held at 1:30 P.M. Wednesday, in the Grace United Methodist Church, Brooklyn. Mrs. Souter died Friday afternoon, February 13th, 1981, in Penrose Community Hospital, Colorado springs, Colorado. Mrs.Souter became ill while visiting her daughter in Colorado. Rev. Fred Pierce officiated and interment followed in IOOF Cemetery. Nevenhoven Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Vida Marie Lockard Souter, daughter of Samuel A. Lockard and Platonia A. Allgood Lockard, was born on a farm east of New Sharon, Iowa in Mahaska County on March 29th, 1913. She received her education in a rural school. On February 15th, 1938, in Oskaloosa, she was united in marriage to Leonard Souter. They farmed for several years northwest of Montezuma. Later they moved to south of Brooklyn followed to a farm northwest of Brooklyn. After living there for several years they moved to a farm east of Brooklyn before moving into Brooklyn in 1969. Mrs. Souter was employed first By Roberts Dime Store, then Jermier's Variety Store and last by Book, Card & Gift Shop. Mrs. Souter was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church and a former member of the Social Circle Community Club. Surviving are husband, Leonard; her daughter and son-in-law, Joanne and Mel Colter of Colorado Springs, Colorado; three brothers, Clyde Lockard of New Sharon, Ralph Lockard of Lacey and Homer Lockard of New Sharon; three sisters, Artie, Mrs. Horace Noel of Newton, Ethel, Mrs. Dale Phillips of Oskaloosa and Lois, Mrs. Paul Gerard of Brooklyn; and her two grandchildren, Shane Lenny and Jennifer Joanne.
