Scripture rosary service will be conducted 7:30 p.m., Thursday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church. Sheriff Bianco, 60, died Tuesday in Swedish Hospital, Englewood. He became ill and was admitted to Logan County Hospital late in March, suffered a stroke and was transferred to the Englewood hospital. A veteran lawman, he was appointed Logan County Sheriff June 15, 1966, succeeding Vernon Hastings Jr., who resigned to enter other law enforcement service. In November 1966, Sheriff Bianco was successful in his campaign bid for a full four year term. He was re-elected in 1970 and again last year. During and prior to his tenure as Logan County Sheriff, he attended various schools conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. He also attended many drug seminars and was often called upon to speak to youth and adult groups regarding drugs and law enforcement. Throughout his career as Sheriff he devoted considerable time and effort working with and for youthgroups in Sterling and Logan County. Sheriff Bianco also attended bomb and explosive schools as well as seminars concerning modern crime detection. He started his 23 year public service career in the early 1950's. He was a former Sterling Police officer and worked with the City Street Department prior to becoming a member of the Logan County Sheriff's Department. Among the Police Chief's he served under was the late Owen L. Wa1ker Born May 10, 1914 in Sterling, he was the son of Joseph and Theresa Lora Bianco. He attended local schools and was a graduate of Sterling High School. He manied Edith Marie Espen, Oct. 1, 1936 in Sterling. He was a member of St.Anthony's Catholic Church,Sterling Elks Lodge No. 1336,National Peace Officers Association, Colorado Law Enforcement Association and the Northeast Colorado Peace Officers Association. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Edith Marie Bianco of 1114 S. 10th Ave.; three daughters, Mrs. Laura West of Hurst, Tex., Mrs. Marianne Hult of Huntington Beach, Calif., and Mrs. Kay New of New Rochelle, N. Y.; a son, Vincent Blanco Jr., of Castle Rock, serving with the Colorado State Patrol; two sisters, Mrs. Frances DeSoto of Sterling and Miss Ernestine Bianco of Englewood and nine grandchildren. Walters-Chaney Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
