Her death occurred Thursday morning, April 20, 1989, at Central Community Hospital, Elkader, after an extended illness. Viola Agnes was born Feb. 12, 1907 at New York City to George and Louise Champlin. She grew up in the city area with her mother. An only child, her father preceded her in death when she was very young. July 20, 1946, she was united in marriage to James Boland at the Bronx, New York, after he returned from World War II army service. They lived in Cedar Rapids for a number of years, where she was employed in the offices of the Mutual Fire and Automobile Insurance Company. The couple later moved to the Volga area and farmed several, later moving into Volga where they bought a home. She was employed at the Statistical and Addressing Service in Elkader until her retirement. She was a long time member of Sacred Heart Church and the Altar and Rosary Society. For a number of years she served as president of the Society and was active in all church activities. Viola Boland was a member of the local senior citizens organization. Besides her father, she was preceded by her mother and cousin, Ray Champlin. She leaves her husband, James Boland of Volga; a sister-in-law, Lucy Conley, Elkader; and cousins George and Pat(Clara) Champlin Foushee, Mountain Home, Ark., Rosalie and Alan Champlin; also cousins in Florida.
