Viola Cora Gladson was born October 6, 1861, at Quincy, Iowa, at which place she grew up into womanhood and was married on December 14, 1882, to Mr. Norcutt. To this union three children were born, viz: Mrs. Gladys Aherin of Redding, Calif., Mrs. Etta Viola Attaway of the Canal Zone, Panama, and Louis Bethuel who passed away in infancy. Mr. and Mrs. Norcutt came to this community about 30 years ago where they have ever since resided. They were among the early settlers who contributed so largely to the civilization that we enjoy today. We owe much to the pioneers who laid the foundations upon which we are building. Mrs. Norcutt united with the Methodist Episcopal Church in early life and had ever remained a faithful and consistent member. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star to which she was very devoted. She was a good neighbor, a sincere friend, a devoted wife and mother, and possessed a fine Christian character. Besides raising her own children, she had the care of Yvonne Rowe, her granddaughter, now Mrs. M Morris, during her eary life. Mrs. Norcutt's mother being an invalid the latter part of her life, much of the responsibility of the home and care of her youngest brother, Arthur, devolved upon her young shoulders. She leaves behind three brothers, Arthur Gladson of Yakima, Wash., William Gladson of Fayetteville, Ark., and Walter Gladson of Long Beach, Calif., and one sister, Mrs. Edith Gillett, of Corning, Iowa, in addition to her husband, Mrs. Norcutt. Two brothers passed away recently, Charles and Frank Gladson of this community. May she become the recipient in the world beyond of the same love and friendship that she so freely bestowed upon others. Her funeral was held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 from the M.E. church, the pastor, the Rev. Ralph Carleton, officiating, and all that was mortal of her was tenderly laid to rest in Hillcrest cemetery. A quartet composed of L.T. and Richard Cole, Mrs. J.H. Westover and Mrs. Fred Cederholm sang portions of "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" and "Shall We Gather at the River," with Mrs. Roy Gilman accompanying at the piano. The pallbearers were S.A. McGimpsey, C.E. Dalton, D.O. Mason, Robt. Holgate, J.C. Kinsella, and Geo. Robison. Many and beautiful were the floral offerings. Those from out of town in attendance at the services were Wm. Gladson of Arkansas, Mrs. C.E. Baker, Mrs. Ida Norcutt, Mrs. Pearl Daily, and Spencer Norcutt of Lewistown, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Norcutt of Stanford.
