Up until Thursday, before she was admitted into the hospital, her spirit was mighty and she was living life as she always had, staying busy, doing her spring house cleaning and washing walls. Viola Darlene Erhart was born Sept. 30, 1934, in Deisem, Morton County, N.D. She was one of 14 children and grew up in North Dakota. On July 23, 1951, she married her beloved Herman at St. James Cathedral in Jamestown, N.D. After their marriage, they moved around a lot. Viola and Herman spent time in Ely, Nev.; Spearfish, S.D.; and eventually settling in Billings. She enjoyed a cigarette, liked the casinos and loved her family. Everyone who knew her can attest to the fact that she wasn’t afraid to set things straight and telling people just how things were. It is hard to sum up a life in just a few lines. Perhaps it is best just to say that she touched a lot of people with her feisty spirit and will be missed. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman; her parents, Otto and Rosina Dallman; and five siblings, Adeline Hartman, Melvin, Alvin, Alvina Hilderbrand; and an infant sister Doreen. She is survived by one daughter, son-in-law, two sons, daughter-in-law, four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, four sisters, four brothers-in-law, four brothers [survivors names omitted]. Visitation will begin Wednesday, Feb. 10, from 2 to 5 p.m., and on Thursday, Feb. 11, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Casket will also be open one hour before start of service. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 12, at Cremation & Funeral Gallery. Interment will follow at Yellowstone Valley Memorial Park.--Billings Gazette, Feb. 10, 2010
