Description	:	The following is an excerpt from the book "The First 100 Years in Codington County South Dakota" published in 1979. "Alred Briggs Family Alfred Briggs married Viola DeLapp in Dover, Minn., in 1876. In 1881 they moved for Eyota, Minn., to Codington County Bringing their daughter, Elsie, with them. Born to them in South Dakota were Virgil, Ada, Winifred, Cairmes, Alonzo, and Mary. Elsie married Harry McElhany of Florence. "Alred Briggs Family Alfred Briggs married Viola DeLapp in Dover, Minn., in 1876. In 1881 they moved for Eyota, Minn., to Codington County Bringing their daughter, Elsie, with them. Born to them in South Dakota were Virgil, Ada, Winifred, Cairmes, Alonzo, and Mary. Elsie married Harry McElhany of Florence. They had eight children, Les, Sam, Elsie, Harry Jr., Paul, Don, Dorothy and Ruth. Virgil had four sons, Alfred, Ralph, Harry, Lyle and a daughter, Margaret who died in Midland, S.D. at the age of 2. Virgil's wife was Tina Dahle. Alfred married Margaret Jankord of Grover on August 29, 1931. They lived in Pelican Township and had four sons, twins, Robert and Richard, Laverne and Dale. Richard died at the age of 20. Dale married Paula Wirtz in 1959 and they had five children: Tammy Mashek who lives in Mitchell and has a son; Shari who married Lloyd Muckey Jr. and lives in Kampeska town; and Mike, Bonita and Richard at home. Another daughter of Dale and Paula, Cindy, was killed in an auto accident two years ago. Dale is the owner of the Red Rooster. Ralph married Hazel Wattnem and they live in California with their family. Harry had no children. Lyle married Delores Williams of Watertown and had two sons. They moved to New Mexico in the '50s. Ad Montooth and her husband farmed near Henry. Winifred died in 1890. Cairmes married Minnie Erichson. They had three daughters: Adrian who married Frank Factor and lives in Iowa; Violet Pederson who lives in Watertown and has two children living in Minnesota; and Blanche who married Tony Lutzvick of Watertown and had three girls. Alonzo lived in Michigan and had five children. Mary married Clarence Davy and had four children. Ruth drowned at the age of 15. Robert, Marion and Beatrice all live in Illinois. * * * Alfred & Viola had 7 children. At the time of this writing a Find a Grave memorial for their son Charles could not be located. Information about this son: Charles Alonzo [b.1890] married Lyda Mae Konsell, Jan. 1 or 2, 1913 -- had Winifred & Carrol, divorced. He then married Fern Edison Delores, had 1 boy, Luella, divorced and married again, had 1 boy Thomas, raised by wife's sister. He is referred to as Alonzo in "The First 100 Years in Codington County South Dakota" book which also states he lived in Michigan and had five children. -Information from Mary Davy [daughter] and Hazel Wattnem Briggs [Grandson Ralph's wife]
