GEORGE HOMAN Former David City Girl Passed Away Monday Afternoon, March 30. Mrs. George Homan, formerly Miss Viola Bykerk of David City, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Bykerk, Sr., passed away at her home near Cedar Rapids Monday afternoon, March 30 following illness of some days with influenza, with which the entire family have been suffering. On Sunday, March 22, Mr. and Mrs. Homan's youngest daughter, Ruth, 7 1/2 months old, died from the disease. Mrs. Homan's parents had been at the Homan home since that time, helping care for their daughter and her family. Funeral services and burial were at Cedar Rapids on Wednesday morning, April 1. Mrs. Homan's brother and sister and a number of other relatives and friends went from David City to attend the funeral. Mrs. Homan was in her 26th year. She was born in Butler county and grew to young womanhood on a farm southeast of David City. She attended David City high school and after her graduation in 1915 was employed in The Press office most of the time until her marriage to George Homan on March 7, 1918. Since their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Homan had resided near Cedar Rapids. Surviving Mrs. Homan are her husband and two daughters, Ruth [Fern] and Doris, also her parents, one brother, Joe Bykerk, living near Ulysses, and two sisters, Mrs. Alvah Samson of Bridgeport and Miss Ethel Bykerk of David City. Mrs. Homan was possessed of a sweet and happy disposition which endeared her to a host of friends and she was ever a favorite in social affairs in which she participated. She was a devoted wife and mother and a truly Christian character. She was a member of the David City Christian church and always took an active part in the church work, in which she was deeply interested. Always friendly, hospitable and helpful to others, she had made for herself a place in which she will be greatly missed by many persons. ``````````````` Cedar Rapids Outlook (Cedar Rapids, Nebr.), April 2, 1925, p. 1, col. 3 MRS. GEORGE HOMAN Viola Bykerk was born December 19, 1897 in Butler County and died at her home southwest of Cedar Rapids March 30th at 2:30 P. M. Mrs. Homan contracted influenza a few weeks ago which later developed into pneumonia and from this disease she laid at deaths door for several days. She was a young lady of true worth, a good mother and helpmate. Her sudden death leaves a prostrated husband, two small children and many friends and relatives to mourn her loss. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Bykerk of David City were among those who were here and to attend the funeral which was held at the St. Anthony Church Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock. Interment was made in the Parish cemetery. Sympathy of the community is extended to the bereaved.
