The funeral was held at the United Methodist Church, Claremont, May 4, 1993, with Rev. James Cissell officiating. Burial was in the Groton Union Cemetery. She grew up in the Houghton area and attended grade schoolat Huffton. She graduated from Central High School, Aberdeen, in 1927. She attended Northern Normal and Industrial College. She taught in various country schools. She married Ray R. Pulfrey at Sisseton, June 10, 1933. They lived on various farms in the area, until they bought the present farm in 1951, where she has resided since. After her children were raised, she returned to teaching and received her degree from Northern State College. She taught in the last country school in Brown County. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Claremont, the United Methodist Women, and the Shelby Friendship Club. She was a member of Adah Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star, Claremont, and received her 50-year pin. She served as Worthy Matron several times and as secretary for many years. She was a representative for the Grand Chapter of South Dakota. She was also a member of the Legion Auxiliary and served as chaplain for many years. She is survived by her husband, Roy, Houghton; four sons, Gary Pulfrey, Seattle, Wash., Rex Pulfrey, Bonney Lake, Wash., Myron Pulfrey, Lakeville, Minn., and Keith Pulfrey, Aberdeen; two daughters, Mrs. Glenn (Jenenne) Thorpe, Spring Lake Park, Minn., and Mrs. Alvin (Sharon) Lehr, Houghton; three sisters, Mrs. Beuford (Helen) Turner, Elgin, Ill., Mrs. Don (Ethel) Severson, Marysville, Wash., and Joyce Giesey, Strongville, Ohio; two brothers, Robert Bacon and Hugh Bacon, Seattle, Wash.; 25 grandchildren, 16 greatgrandchildren, three great great grandchildren. She was proceeded in death by her parents; one son, Terry; one daughter, Marianna; and two brothers, Amos and Donald. Casketbearers were Alvin Lehr, Glenn Thorpe, Gary Pulfrey, Keith Pulfrey, Myron Pulfrey, Rex Pulfrey. Organist was Joan Thompson, pianist was Yvonne Gibbs, and soloist was the Rev. Bill Duncan. Ushers were Roy Pulfrey and Dana Pulfrey.
