She attended public schools in Early, Sulphur Springs and Rembrandt. Read More	Storm Lake Times-July 11, 1998 Viola Marie Evans was bom March 4, 1920 in Sac City to Elma and Harvey Madsen. Vi was the youngest of 10 children. She attended public schools in Early, Sulphur Springs and Rembrandt. Viola was baptized as an infant in the Sulphur Springs Presbyterian Church and confirmed as an adult at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Newell. She spoke frequently about spending most of her free time as a young girl helping her father on the farm. Viola met Glen Evans during her teenage years and they were married on Feb. 19, 1939. Their married life was spent in Newell. On Oct. 7, 1945 their only child, John Harvey, was bom, John became a kindergarten pupil and Vi went to work as one of the hot lunch cooks for the Newell Public Schools. She was always there to help the principal with John's discipline. Nine years later she was promoted to head cook, where she remained until 1979. This was the year her beloved husband passed away with cancer. 1980 brought the onset of arthritis, and Vi continued to deteriorate from this affliction for the rest of her life. Many surgeries resulted in metal joints and years of suffering and disability because of this severe condition. During the 1980s she resided in her own apartment at McCord Manor and always enjoyed socializing and entertaining visitors. Vi was loved by many, and was always busy with friends and relatives. She especially loved visits by her grandchildren. She moved to Nebraska in 1996 to be closer to John and family, as well as for specialized care. During these past two years she battled with arthritis as it intruded even the cartilage in her body. She was constantly encouraged by the numerous cards and visits from friends and family. Viola is survived by her son John and his wife Joanie who reside in Elkhom, Ne; six grandchildren: Melinda, M.D. (26), Molly (22), Marci (20), Nicholas (19), Megan (19), and Chandrika (16) one great granddaughter, Elissa Marie (6 months). There are several nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
