She was born March 11, 1908, to Alexander and Clara Verena Hefty Reichart at Half Mound, northwest of Valley Falls. She graduated from Valley Falls High School in 1927, attended North Central College, Naperville, Ill., and graduated from Emporia State Teachers College in 1959. She was born March 11, 1908, to Alexander and Clara Verena Hefty Reichart at Half Mound, northwest of Valley Falls. She graduated from Valley Falls High School in 1927, attended North Central College, Naperville, Ill., and graduated from Emporia State Teachers College in 1959. She taught school for 41 years in Jefferson County rural schools and at Tonganoxie and Valley Falls. At Tonganoxie, she was also an assistant principal and principal in the elementary school. After her retirement in 1971, she returned to teaching to undertake a 12-week language arts program for 12 Vietnamese children ages kindergarten to high school. She was elected as the second master teacher of Jefferson County in 1966 and to the Kansas Teachers Hall of Fame in 1989. A noted area historian, she authored a history of the Coal Creek Church, four family genealogies and "Half Mound: The Hill, The People, The Times." She was a member of the Coal Creek United Methodist Church, where she served as trustee, treasurer and Sunday School superintendent and taught youth and adult classes. She was a member of the United Methodist Women. Other memberships included Chapter DK, PEO, the Delaware Township Library Board and the Medical Board, all in Valley Falls, and the Alpha Iota Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, Holton. She was a life member of NEA, KNEA and the Jefferson County and Valley Falls teacher associations. Survivors include a brother, Milton Reichart, Valley Falls; a sister, Martha Spence, Dodge City; one nephew; and six nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Howard Reichart; and two sisters, Edith Keen and Alvina Reichart. A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Coal Creek United Methodist Church. Burial will be at the Coal Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Monday at Mercer Funeral Home, Valley Falls. Dodge City Globe
