Viola Schmidt was born to John and Rose Schmidt on Sept. 10, 1915, in Angela. She grew up in Regent, N.D., and attended the Regent country school. On Nov. 24, 1932, she and Edward Geist were married. She worked at the Beatrice Creamery in Regent until moving to Miles City in 1937. She worked at Miles City Steam Laundry until they were transferred to Billings in 1959. While living in Billings she was employed by Kline Cleaners. Upon retirement, in 1979, they returned to Miles City to live. Mrs. Geist is survived by one son, Raymond (Mary) Geist of Lincoln; a daughter-in-law, Joanne Geist of Fargo, N.D.; a brother, Ervin Schmidt of Miles City; a half-sister, Vi Ziepfel of Hamilton, Ohio; three granddaughters; three great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; four sisters-in-law; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward; one son, Leroy; two brothers, Albert and Art; a sister, Lentina Higgins; and a half-sister, Trudy Hundley. Funeral services were on Monday, Jan. 15, 2007, at 11 a.m. at Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Interment followed in the Custer County Cemetery.
