Born on November 28, 1905, she was the third of six children of the late William Jacob Louden and Margaret Gertrude Pegg Louden. Read More	Violet Ellen Louden, 100, of Lexington Park died on June 14, 2006 at the home in which she was born. Born on November 28, 1905, she was the third of six children of the late William Jacob Louden and Margaret Gertrude Pegg Louden. She was preceded in death by her brothers Warren Louden (infant), Albert Louden, Bertram Louden, Milton Louden, Melvin Louden, Katherine Louden and one niece, Rosemarie Louden. She is survived by her sister-in-law Althea Louden; nieces and their husbands Shirley and J.C. Tubbs, Marlene and Ron Simpson, and Gail and Roger Hepp of Lexington Park, MD; niece Delores Evans of California, MD; nephew William Louden of Great Mills, MD; 10 great-nieces and nephews; and 13 great-great nieces and nephews. Violet entered the work force as a seamstress in a local dress shop owned by a friend. In short order, Violet decided for the sake of the friendship to leave her friend's employ and begin taking in seamstress work at her home. With her sister's help, they established quite a reputable name for themselves in the front parlor of their home on a little parcel known as Sarah's Retreat. It was here that the two of them designed and hand crafted fashions for well over 30 years for the wives of Admirals and enlisted men alike who were stationed at Patuxent River. Many times these women would bring fabric, thread and notions from previous duty stations all over the world wanting a special dress or pant suit custom tailored. And when the Naval Test Pilot School called some of the future Apollo astronauts to our area for training, their wives came calling on the Louden sisters for a few tasteful additions to their wardrobe. Some of their dearest friends were customers who would return for years after their husbands' naval careers took them elsewhere. They were accomplished at everything from party gowns to day wear. On more than one occasion they lovingly stitched bridal gowns and bridesmaids dresses for family and friends alike. Violet, as the eldest daughter, served quietly but confidently as the family matriarch. She was deeply devoted to her family and her primary concern was always the care and well being of her siblings. She was a charter member of the Lexington Park United Methodist Church and was so pleased to be able to celebrate her 100th birthday surrounded by friends and family alike at the church hall last November.
