A celebration of Violet's life will be held on February 2, 2010 at 2pm at Park Hill Cemetery in Vancouver, Washington. Violet was born July 11, 1925 in Vernonia, Oregon to Harry Franklin Owen and Mary Maylene Bell Owen. Violet is proceeded in passing by sisters Virginia Gueren, Verdea Rayburn, Lucille Elison, and brother Harry F. Owen Jr. She is survived by her sister Betty Ritter of Chubbuck, Idaho. Violet was married for 37 years to Calvin Bixby Chandler, who proceeded her in death in 1981. She is also proceeded in passing by children: Baby Chandler, Richard Chandler, Gerald Chandler, Gary Chandler, and Melvin Chandler. She is survived by Marlene Walch of Vancouver, Ray Chandler of De Leon Springs Florida, May Perez of Vancouver, Phyllis Extine of Vancouver, Nancy Knowles of Meridian Mississippi, Patricia Pantalone of Ephrata Washington, Nina Chandler of Vancouver, 97 grandchildren spanning three generations, and her beloved cat "Whiskers". Violet spent her life as a dedicated homemaker, mother, and grandmother. She was best known to her large family and friends as an accomplished seamstress and a guardian of domestic arts. Throughout her life she traveled the United States and enjoyed many events highlighted by a trip to the World's Fair in Seattle. She was an avid animal lover, rescuing animals for area shelters to provide them a home and companionship. In memory of her late husband Calvin, she continued his tradition of feeding the wild squirrels and birds. She spent many hours at her window watching the animals eat from specialized feeders. In the years following the passing of her husband, Violet enjoyed an active lifestyle of exercise and religion. She cherished her faith in God, which gave her strength and comfort throughout her life. She always made time to help her children and grandchildren regardless of the situation. She also shared with them her love of movies, TV sitcoms, cartoons, and lively debates (which she never lost). As the grand matriarch of the Chandler family, Violet was blessed to be continually involved with family gatherings, which she took as an opportunity to impart her life stories that she held so dear. Every child and grandchild who passed through her door would leave enriched with knowledge and valuable life lessons. Even in declining health, Violet stood firm in passing on family history, entertaining guests, and working on her word puzzles. Goodbye to you, you amazingly strong woman. Your family and friends are better for having you in our lives and you absence leaves us deeply saddened. We love and miss you. You will forever have a place in our hearts!
