Read More	MINDEN — Violet Nielsen, 93, of Minden died Monday, Nov. 30, 2015, at Bethany Home in Minden. Vi Nielsen, on special occasions with family and friends, would read aloud her favorite verses from Ecclesiastes. “To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven: a time to be born …” Violet Margaret Nielsen was born on May 1, 1922, to Jim and Christine (Jepsen) Pedersen on the family farm just east of Minden. She was named for the abundant purple spring flowers, which adorn the earth at that time of the year. She loved to tell the story of her childhood job of watching the cows in the pasture behind the homestead to prevent them from wandering onto the nearby railroad tracks. She walked with her sisters to a one-room schoolhouse, and when she graduated from Minden High, she began a teaching career in a one-room rural schoolhouse. During World War II, she moved to Denver to work for the military. After the war, she returned to Minden and married a U.S. Army veteran and local farmer, Wesley W. Nielsen, on Aug. 10, 1947, at Bethany Lutheran. She moved to the Nielsen home place north of Upland and was an active member of Fredericksburg Lutheran Church. She also ran a farm-based business of selling and delivering fresh-baked cookies and pastries. She was a Danish dancer — “a time to dance …” — and a member of the Danish Brotherhood Lodge 16. “… (A)nd a time to die.” Violet M. Nielsen ended her life’s journey on Nov. 30, 2015, while a resident of Bethany Home. Violet was preceded in death by her husband, Wes, and her two sisters, Kay and Edith. She leaves behind family members who now have “a time to weep … and a time to mourn,” including her youngest sister, Myrtle; one daughter, Karen Nielsen and her husband, Joe Mariano, of Chicago; three sons, James and his wife, Kathy, of Brookfield, Mo., Mark and his wife, Kim, of Omaha and Paul and wife Laura Jensen, who reside at the family farm; grandchildren, Evan James Nielsen, Hailey Brook Knipsel, Larissa Nielsen Mariano, Eric Jordan Nielsen, Collin William Nielsen, JoJo Nielsen Mariano, Tyler John Wesley Nielsen, Breanna Marie Nielsen and Michaela Roene Nielsen; and great-grandchildren, Alivia Knipsel, Malcolm Nielsen and Thora Nielsen.
