Teddy, a small, neat and pleasant person, liked people and was knowledgeable on many subjects. She could discuss the history of the area, the fishing and the lake or any hundreds of topics, sharing bits with customers. "She was a proper Lady" said one who had known her. Teddy retired from the restaurant in October 1992, she died Monday, October 10, 1994, at her home in Mobridge at the age of 87. She was born December 31, 1906, to Gus and Augusta (Ludtke) Monthye in Mound City. She was a small child when the family moved to Mobridge, where she grew up and attended school. Following her education, she worked in Mobridge at Premack's Ready to Wear and Riddells' Store. In 1935 she married Sydney Ries and they made their home in Aberdeen. While in Aberdeen she was employed by Dinger-Graf Photography until 1977 when she moved back to Mobridge to be near her family. Since her return she worked at the Wheel Family Restaurant until her retirement. She was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mobridge and church was important to her. Although she had no children of her own, she loved children and took an interest in their education. She was especially close to her nieces and nephews. Independent, she worked and saved most of her life. Teddy leaves a sister, Ramona Ries of Bismarck, North Dakota; four nephews, Ben Thompson of New Hope, Minnesota, Vernon Monthye of Mobridge, Ervin J. Monthye of Kalispell, Montana, and Jerome Monthye of Rush City, Minnesota; and four nieces, Mrs. Myrel (Shirley) Dokken of Mobridge, Darlene Rydquist and Margo Bennett, both of Bismarck, and Mrs. Keith (Marilyn) Harrison of Deadwood. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Fern in infany and Mrs. Tommy (Hazel) THompson; two brothers, John and Ervin; and her parents. Funeral services for Teddy were Saturday at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mobridge. The Reverend Peter J. Nauman officiated. Judy Rabenberg was organist. Special music was sung by the church choir. Casketbearers were Ben Thompson, Vernon Monthye, Ervin Monthye, Myrel Dokken, Lyle Walth and Jeff Jackson. Larson's Funeral Home, Mobridge.
