Read More	First wife of Joseph Shelton Dodd, married on 24 Mar 1881 in Shelby County, Missouri. Obituary. DODD:—Mrs. Virena J. Dodd died at her home near Leonard, Mo. on last Tuesday eve, May 2, 1893, after a lingering illness of several months. She was aged 31 years, 1 month and 16 days. She was the youngest child of the late John C. Garnett deceased and Mary E. Garnett who still survives her daughter. She had been a member of the North River Baptist church for about 16 years was married to Joseph Dodd about 12 years ago. Mrs. Dodd was loved by all who knew her for her kind and loving disposition. She loved her home and all that was pure and holy and good and in return she was loved by all, but disease and the angel of death spared her not for earthly love and when consumption seized hold of this cherished one everything was done with willing hands, loving hands, medical skill could do to destroy the dread disease—but to no avail—the mandate had gone forth,—her work was done and the loving Father said: "Child come home." She had been failing in health for a long time but during her long suffering she never murmured or complained. She leaves a husband and four children to mourn the loss of a kind and loving wife and mother. And an aged mother and one brother who sorrow for a loved one. She was perfectly ready to go, and only wished to live for the sake of her family and loved ones. North river church has lost a good and faithful member. And no more will she meet with loved ones in God's earthly sanctuary which she so much loved; she has joined the church triumphant, her voice is heard in the song of redemption through Christ Jesus. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. John Eaton at North river church after which her remains were laid to rest in the old Garnett cemetery to await the resurrection morn. The deep sympathy of the community was well attested by the large attendance at the funeral service. We may not understand why God bereaves us thus, but we can trust.
