Royer, Former State Representative, Dies In Dayton Virgil A. Royer, 69, well-known Darke county potato dealer and former state representative, died Sunday at Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton, following a year-long illness. Born in Franklin township, where he spent most of his life, Royer started raising potatoes in 1923 and at the time of his death he was one of the largest distributors of potatoes in the Midwest. He attended Manchester College and Ohio State University, and was a charter member and first president of Pitsburg Lions Club. He was also a member of Painter Creek church of the Brethren, Ohio Potato Growers Association, Greenville Area Chamber of Commerce, United Fruit and Vegetable Growers Association, and a former member of the board of trustees of the Brethren Home here. He served in the state legislature from 1960 to 1964 and also served on the Darke County Fair Board. Surviving are his wife, Florence; four daughters, Mrs. Ronald McDonald, Cleveland, Mrs. Richard Chase , Cincinnati, Mrs. Gale Denlinger , New Lebanon, and Mrs. David Kreiber, North Manchester, Ind.; a foster son, Dieter Schneppat, Tiffin; four brothers, Forrest and Harold, both of R. R. 2, Arcanum, Galen. Dayton, and Wilbur, Portsmouth; and 10 grandchildren. Services will be held at Painter Creek Chirch of the Brethren at 2 p.m. Wednesday, with the Rev. Harold Kettering officiating. Burial will be in Newscomers Cemetery, south of here. Friends may call at Miller Funeral Home here from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, and after 1 p.m. Wednesday at the church: In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the cancer fund.
