Description	:	Virgil was born on March 23, 1926 in Audubon, IA to parents Benjamon and Lena (Jorgensen) Lauritsen. He was baptized in the Our Saviors Lutheran Church and later confirmed at the Our Saviors Lutheran Church on April 6, 1941. Virgil lived north of Audubon and attended Viola Grade School and graduated from Viola High School, April 26th, 1944. He received the rank of Private First Class and was honorably discharged... Read More	Virgil was born on March 23, 1926 in Audubon, IA to parents Benjamon and Lena (Jorgensen) Lauritsen. He was baptized in the Our Saviors Lutheran Church and later confirmed at the Our Saviors Lutheran Church on April 6, 1941. Virgil lived north of Audubon and attended Viola Grade School and graduated from Viola High School, April 26th, 1944. Virgil enlisted into the United States Army on June 17, 1946 and worked as a military policeman in Yokohama, Japan during World War II. He received the rank of Private First Class and was honorably discharged on November 8th, 1947. Afterwards he was in the National Guard in Audubon for several years. On July 5, 1952, Virgil was united in marriage to Doris Madsen at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. Virgil and Doris were blessed with four children: Cindy, Craig, Karla and Kirk. They made their home in Audubon, IA and Sac City, IA. Virgil had many occupations. As a young man he farmed for neighbors, then enlisted in the Army. Afterwards he worked on the railroad construction in Missouri, then returned to Audubon and worked as an electrician as well as hauled fuel and worked in the gas station for Ron Rasmussen in Audubon. After marriage Virgil & Doris purchased and operated the Culligan Water Softening Dealership in Audubon. Virgil also drove buses for the Audubon Public Schools and sold feed for Moorman’s Feed Company. Moving from Audubon to Sac City in the late 1960s, Virgil and Doris purchased and operated the Sac City Cleaners, then the Lake City Cleaners, later adding the Lake City Laundry, selling them in 1979. After this Virgil began working for Irwin Masonry, and then maintenance for the Sac County Courthouse. Upon his retirement from Sac County, Virgil worked his favorite job of all, at Marjo’s Green House in Sac City, raising flowers and delivering the wholesale plants throughout Iowa and Nebraska. Virgil was a member of the Kiwanis and on the Board of Trustees at St. Paul Lutheran Church. He had a creative side, building a boat with his father-in-law, Magnus Madsen, as well as designing and building a house with Doris in Sac City. He also enjoyed quilting with Doris, as well as having his own endeavors in photography, painting, and making decorative objects from wood. He also liked to spend time outside, to plant flowers, tend the garden and in his free time, make his mother’s special grape juice wine. Virgil was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be truly missed by all those who knew and loved him. Survivors include his children: Cindy Lauritsen of Cherokee, IA, Craig Lauritsen of Lemars, IA, Karla Lauritsen (Robert Vocke) of Santa Fe, NM, and Kirk (Jennifer) Lauritsen of Pomona, KS; grandchildren: Patrick Bergen Lauritsen Vocke, Jeremiah Stumpff and Jasmine Phillips; brother Dale Lauritsen of Webster City, IA; sister Norma Pennel of West Virginia; Sister-in-law Joy St. Peter of Audubon, IA and other extended family members and friends. Virgil was preceded in death by his wife Doris, his parents, and brothers Edward, Emmert, Raymond and Earl, and his brother-in-laws Zag Pennel and Deane St Peter.
