Description	:	Virgil was born March 3, 1926, to Elmer and Hattie (Bals) Buntemeyer in Lincoln, Nebraska. His family moved to Clinton, IA when Virgil was in high school. He graduated from Lyon’s High School in 1943. After high school, Virgil joined the U.S. Navy during WWII and served as a gunner’s mate in the Pacific aboard the troop transport USS Warhawk. After the war he worked with his father in Buntemeyer and Sons Heating. He married Marvel Lauritsen on November 27, 1948. Marvel passed away June 5, 2003. The family moved to the farm in 1957. He graduated from Lyon’s High School in 1943. After high school, Virgil joined the U.S. Navy during WWII and served as a gunner’s mate in the Pacific aboard the troop transport USS Warhawk. After the war he worked with his father in Buntemeyer and Sons Heating. He married Marvel Lauritsen on November 27, 1948. Marvel passed away June 5, 2003. The family moved to the farm in 1957. Virgil and his brother LeRoy formed a partnership with the two farms called Buntemeyer Brothers. They were referred to as the “Gentlemen Farmers.” He retired from farming in 1985. He then began a realtor career with Century 21 for a few years. Virgil loved family get-togethers, the great outdoors and enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, gardening, cooking and canning. He was a very active member of St. Boniface Churched and helped build St. Boniface Parish Hall. He was a past member of Pork Producers, Clinton Cattlemen’s Association, a past president of Low Moor Lion’s club, Miles American Legion, 100 Bushel Club and Prognosticator’s Club. He was also a regular with his coffee group at Sweetheart Bakery almost every morning. He was an avid Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears and Iowa Hawkeye fan. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, brother Jack Buntemeyer, granddaughter Nicole Kratz and a great-grandson Brayden Buntemeyer.
