Miserez was born January 9, 1910 on the family farm just outside West Point to Simon Arnold and Ida (Piper) Miserez. Virgil was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. He graduated from West Point Public High School in 1929 during which time he played on the football and basketball teams. He attended the University of Nebraska for one year. After leaving college, Virgil worked as an independent contractor in newspaper advertising sales in a five-state region in and around Nebraska. From 1942 to 1945 he worked in the aircraft defense industry in California. He later owned and operated Lucy's Ladies' & Children's Apparel in Dodge from 1948 until 1970. For several years he managed the Dodge community baseball team and was a long-time member of the Dodge Chamber of Commerce, and served a term as president. In 1970 he returned to advertising sales until retiring in West Point. In retirement he enjoyed gardening and fishing. Survivors include one sister, Olive Ruth Welsh of Scott City, MO; one son, Robert V. Miserez and wife Rene of Jefferson City, MO; two daughters, Betty Miserez of Omaha and Darlene Miserez of Palo Alto, CA; one step-son Joseph Aerisolphal of San Francisco, CA; and two grandchildren, Jason Stoddard of Omaha and Laura Miserez of Jefferson City, MO. He is also survived by his long-time friend and companion, Kathryn Surman. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Vernon, Winolan ("Bud"), and Rudolph ("Rudy"), sister Winona ("Sally"), and an infant son David.
