He was born Oct. 28, 1934, in Munjor to Martin and Bridget (Burgardt) Leiker. He married Dianna M. Tremblay in May of 1962, in Hays. His education included 4 years at St. Francis Seminary in Victoria. He was a dedicated employee for more than 28 years for Betts Baking Co. as a route salesmen in Oakley, retiring in 1990. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean War from 1953 to 1956. After retirement he explored many parts of the U.S. while traveling with his wife in their RV. One of his favorite past times was fishing with family and old friends most anywhere, but especially in central Kansas. He enjoyed being outdoors and spent many hours working on his lawn or tinkering in his work shed. He was a devoted fan of the Kansas City Royals and the Jayhawks. Survivors include his wife; two sons; Virgil Joe, Hays, and Darien and wife, Claudette, Pleasanton, Texas; a daughter, Victoria Wojciechowski and husband, Pete, Melbourne, Fla,; a brother, Wayne Leiker and wife, Edith, Eldorado; six grandchildren, Alissa and husband, Josh Preston, Augusta, Ga., Austin Faulkner, Acworth, Ga., Danielle Leiker, Galva, Mark, Meghan and Melanie Leiker, Pleasanton, Texas; and two great-grandchildren, Lilyth and Emery Huff. He was preceded in death by a son, Damon; his parents; and five sisters, Junita Ruder, Darlene Kuhn, Wilma Engel, Donna Pfannenstiel, and Betty Jo Leiker. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hays; burial in St. Francis Cemetery, Munjor, where he will be laid to rest next to his son, with military honors by the Hays Veterans of Foreign Wars Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 to 9:30 a.m. Thursday, both at Brock’s-Keithley Funeral Chapel and Crematory, 2509 Vine, Hays, KS 67601. A Perpetual Adoration Adorers rosary will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday, followed by a combined Daughters of Isabella rosary and vigil at 7 p.m., all at the funeral chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Munjor St. Francis Cemetery fund or St. Joseph Rectory Remodeling Fund in care of the funeral chapel. Hays Daily News, 3/21/2017
