Description	:	Virgil Kots, 81, of Escondido, California, formerly of Sioux Center, died January 10 at Palomar Hospital in Escondido. Services were at 2 p.m. Friday at First Reformed Church in Sioux Center with the Rev. Arnold Punt officiating. Burial was in Memory Gardens. Kots was born to Henry and Maggie (Schuller) Kots on July 22, 1923, at Maurice. He married Leona Punt on June 13, 1947 at Sioux Center. They farmed near Montevideo, Minnesota, for 10 years. In 1960 they moved to Sioux Center. He worked as a grain buyer at Farmers Coop Elevator for 23 years. In his spare time he enjoyed building several new homes and remodeled homes in Iowa, Arizona and California. He also loved doing handyman work for people. He was a member of First Reformed Church of Sioux Center where he also served as a deacon. He is survived by his wife of 57 years; two children and their spouses, Bonnie and Bruce Smits of San Marcos, California, and Kevin and Darla (De Groot) Kots of Sioux Center; four grandchildren; two greatgrandsons; brothers and sister-inlaw, Marv Kots of Le Mars and Darwin and Marlene Kots of Yoder, Colorado; sisters and brothers-inlaw Laverna Kramer of Le Mars, Lorna and Del Koel of Winfred, South Dakota, Marjorie and Bill Swisher of Westfield and Helen Chance of Sacramento, California; and sisters-in-law, Anne Kots of Bellflower, California, and Lorraine Bainbridge of Kingsley. He was preceded in death by his son, Daniel Kots, in 1983; three brothers, Nelson, Orville and Lloyd Kots; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Kots. Sioux Center News 2005-01-19.
