Description	:	Virgil Eisenbeisz was born on April 9, 1931 in Java, SD to Arthur and Rose (Stoecker) Eisenbeisz. He was raised and went to school in Java, graduating in 1949. He married JoAnn Wolff at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Java on August 15, 1954. They made... Read More	Virgil Eisenbeisz was born on April 9, 1931 in Java, SD to Arthur and Rose (Stoecker) Eisenbeisz. He was raised and went to school in Java, graduating in 1949. He attended the University of South Dakota where he majored in Political Science and Education, graduating in 1953. While at USD, he was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. Virgil began his teaching career in 1953 at Roscoe, SD, where he taught high school Social Studies and coached all boys' sports. He married JoAnn Wolff at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Java on August 15, 1954. They made their home and started their family in Roscoe where Virgil taught for eight years. Virgil moved his family to Aberdeen in 1961 where he completed his Master's Degree at NSU. He taught ninth grade Social Studies and coached until his early retirement in 1985. After he retired from teaching, he and JoAnn enjoyed planning and running motor coach tours throughout North America. He was able to share his love and knowledge of history with a new aged student. The tour bus became his new classroom. He was happy to visit many of the places he had taught about for years. Virgil was the first classroom teacher to be inducted into the South Dakota Beadle Club; he was an active member of the Aberdeen Education Association and a life-long member of the National Education Association. He has been a member of the South Dakota Historical Society for many years. Virgil developed many lifelong friendships among fellow educators and students that he taught and coached. Virgil was a great man of faith. In his many years in Aberdeen, he was a dedicated member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, serving on numerous committees and the Church Council throughout the years. Virgil especially enjoyed the new Church, the direction it has taken, and the role it plays in the Aberdeen religious community. Virgil's greatest pleasure was his family. He instilled in his children and grandchildren a love for all forms of athletics, competition and the outdoor sports of hunting and fishing. He spent countless hours with his children and grandchildren at his cabin at Clear Lake, hunting, fishing and developing their knowledge and appreciation of the outdoors. Grateful for having shared Virgil's life are his wife of 61 years, JoAnn Eisenbeisz, children, Deborah (Bruce) Guy, Douglas (Roberta) Eisenbeisz, Cheryl (Jason) Lorenz, five grandchildren, and many nephews and nieces.
